Shepherdstown Pedal and Paddle is hiring for Spring 2024. We are hiring for full time and/or part time. We have positions available for seasoned bike shop staff and are also considering potential hires that haven't worked in a shop before. Please read the criteria for each position before applying.
Bicycle Service Specialist
The desired team member will help customers through our service department with some focus on retail sales assistance and help with our rental services.
Primary responsibilities:
- Assess customers bikes and create accurate work orders with our software
- Building bicycles
- Providing service maintenance on customers' bikes
- Maintain our rental bicycles and ensure they are safe for customers
Other responsibilities:
- Greet customers in the store or via phone calls
- Figure out customers needs and help them purchase the right products
- 'Sell the experience' of our rental / shuttle trips
- Create rental & adventure reservations
- Set up customers with safe, properly fitting bicycles and kayaks/canoes
- Drive customers to & from their destinations for shuttles or rental/adventures
- Moving, loading, unloading and cleaning our rental equipment
This is a full time position starting in March 2024 with pay based on experience and level of responsibility. Store hours and employee hours are adjusted seasonally as this is a seasonal business.
Location: Shepherdstown, WV is a small town located along the Potomac river in the upper Shenandoah valley. This historic town is rich with independent restaurants and cafes. The region offers a wide array of recreational activities including great hikes, on and off-road cycling and flat water and rapid kayaking and river tubing.
Goal: Represent the business in a professional manner with the first and foremost focus on exceptional customer service and a goal of providing the best bicycle service expertise. Be an asset to our team with superb communication and follow through. Provide technical service on customers bikes that is both safe and the best solution for the customer's needs. Problem solving is a required skill for this position.
Prerequisites:
- Bike shop service department work experience
- Or equivalent experience performing bicycle maintenance
- Problem solving is a must
- Excellent communication skills
- Must have great follow through
Strongly Encouraged:
- Be at least 25 years old
- Possess an excellent driving record
- Can lift and carry up to 90 pounds
Rental & Sales Team Member
The desired team member will help customers through our rental services and retail sales departments with occasional help with our bicycle maintenance services.
Primary responsibilities:
- Greet customers in the store and via phone calls
- Assess customers needs and help them purchase the right products
- Keep the retail sales area clean and well merchandised
- 'Sell the experience' of our rental / shuttle trips
- Create accurate rental/adventure reservations using our calendar software
- Drive customers to & from their destinations for shuttles or rentals/adventures
- Move, load, unload and clean our rental bicycles, kayaks, and canoes
Other responsibilities
- Build bicycles on occasion
- Perform basic repairs and safety checks on rental and/or customer bicycles
- Assess customer bicycles and create accurate work orders using our software
